For our next "Bible Game" we would like to do a blogpost ancient cultural customs. What we need from you is to post either your favorite, or most confusing ancient cultural customs. We will then select 10 and compile them into a blogpost that explains the meaning of their origins.
By cultural customs we mean widespread pratices that were known by everyone of the historic culture. For example, cattle for a very long time had monetary value rather than currency, even when there was currency cattle still had tremendous trading value.
Sumbitted cultural customs need to be ancient, preferably in the Old Testament time period and hold specific relevance to the Bible or the Hebrew, Israelites , or Jewish. If you are unsure whether or not something is a cultural custom, it likely is. This involves everything from sayings, to inheritance/family traditions, hospitality, reactions to events etc.
Post them here and we'll put together a blogpost of ten of them explaining their meanings, origins etc. Most of all take the time to study and understand these "strange ways" that those of the ancient world praticed. In this blogpost we will also explore whether or not these customs should be kept, if they were praticed or demanded of God's people.
Enjoy searching and studying
