Abdiel was a Gadite, the son of Chieftain Guni. He and his son Ahi[1] settled in the land of Bashan in the time of king Jotham of Judah in the mid eighth century BC[2].
Etymology
The name Abdiel (Heb: עַבְדִּיאֵל) means "servant of God"--from עָ֫בֶד (servant) and אֵל (a shortened form of אֱלֹהִים, Elohim, used often in names).
