Jehoahaz (meaning "Yahweh has held") is the fourth and youngest son of Josiah. His birth name was Shallum. After his father's death, he was the first to succeed his father and became king of the Southern Kingdom of Israel, Judah, which he ruled under the name of Jehoahaz. Under his rule the people fell away to idolatry.
