This article is about the nation. You may be looking for the Tribe of Judah or the Patriarch, from whom the tribe of Judah descended.
Judah was an ancient kingdom established after a civil war that split the united kingdom of Israel. It was established around 930 BC and lasted until 586 BC when it was left in ruins by the forced exile of its people by the Kingdom of Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar. It would be ruled exclusively by the Davidic dynasty. Jerusalem would be both the capital city and the home of the Temple of true worship of God as prescribed in the Law.
