Laban was the heir to the house of his grandfather Terah, being the son of Bethuel, and the brother to Rebekah. It was to him that Isaac sent his son Jacob at Rebekah's request after Esau had taken a Canaanite wife. Jacob would get two wives after twenty years serving his uncle as a shepherd.
