Lamech redirects here.
This article is about Noah's father. You may be looking for the descendant of Cain.

Lamech was the son of Methuselah and the father of Noah.[1] It is recorded that Lamech was 182 years old at the birth of Noah, and lived for another 595 years after this, placing Lamech's age at death at 777 years, just a few years before the Flood. By this genealogical account, Adam was still alive for about the first 56 years of Lamech's life.

Etymology[]

Lamech shared a name with the notorious Cainite who had boasted of killing at least two men. This presents the possibility that Methuselah knew the man in a way that made naming his son reasonable. Like with the naming of his father Enoch (Jared's son). There seems to have had been at least communication between the two tribes. Both men's names mean "powerful".
