Obed, son of Boaz and Ruth[1], was born in the days of the judges[2] in the village of Bethlehem, Judah. He was the father of Jesse, and grandfather of King David. He is the 27th great-grandfather of Jesus Christ.
Born to a wealthy farmer and a Moabitess converted to Yahwism, Obed grew to adulthood in the days of Samuel, the last judge of the confederated tribes of Israel. His son Jesse would live a long life, having several sons, the last in his latter days.
