Obed, son of Boaz and Ruth, was born in the days of the judges in the village of Bethlehem, Judah. He was the father of Jesse, and grandfather of King David. He is the 27th great-grandfather of Jesus Christ.
Born to a wealthy farmer and a Moabitess converted to Yahwism, Obed grew to adulthood in the days of Samuel, the last judge of the confederated tribes of Israel. His son Jesse would live a long life, having several sons, the last in his latter days.
