Reu or Ragau was the son of Peleg and the father of Serug,[1] thus being Abraham's great-great-grandfather.[2]
Born in a time of turmoil, Reu (whose name means "pasture" or "friend") was part of the tribe of Shem, who had a son two years after the Great Flood.[3] In the providence of God, his family stayed in Ur after the dispersion of the tribes from Babel. God would choose his familiar to preserve the faithful line which would one day lead to the promised Messiah.
