Samaritanism was the religion of the Samaritan people being distinct from the Judaism practiced by the Jews, Yahwism practiced prior to the exile and later Christianity-following after the teachings of Jesus Christ. One of the most prominent features of Samaritanism was its insistence on Mount Gerizim being the true site for worshipping God instead of the temple as well as its veneration of Jacob's Well in Sychar as a holy site. While not described in detail in Scripture, the Gospel of John records Jesus encounter with a Samaritan woman where he directly addresses Mt. Gerizim as not being the chosen site. While mentioning salvation being the Jewish people, Jesus ultimately points to a day where true worship of God will not be in a temple, but in spirit by a believer.
